Paula Mattisonsierra has more than 21 years experience in the fashion industry. A Jamaican native, Mattisonsierra has always had a sense of style having watched her mother design custom garments while she was growing up. After graduating from FIDM, she began her career as a fashion stylist at FIDM. Realizing the need for contemporary maternity clothes, Mattisonsierra began making preparations for her own company. In the Fall of 2000, she launched Maximum Mama Maternity selling the collection to other maternity retailers and in 2005 opened a boutique in San Francisco’s West Portal District.

Inspired by the women in her family, Mattisonsierra watched the pregnancies of all of her of 13 nieces and nephews. She realized the void for stylish yet affordable clothing that woman would want to wear during this time of change. When Paula was 16 years old, her older sister became pregnant, which was where she realized her love for fashion! She relished in devising stylish ensembles that inspired the current collections for Maximum Mama Maternity. Mattisonsierra reflects upon her amateur design days, “The things we could do to an oxford shirt was incredible!”

Maximum Mama Maternity design concept is to focus on classic pieces inspired by current runway trends. “It’s all about flexibility. A simple dress can become a tunic over a pair of trousers. It can also become a basic dress for work,” coining the term, “mix n match ability”.

Mattisonsierra graduated from Bernard Baruch College in New York with a degree in International Marketing. Paula also holds a degree in Product Development from Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in San Francisco. Mattisonsierra currently teaches at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco.
